Talk about seismic activity. That by default makes living here a safety issue. I was appalled at the latest letter from Meridian justifying an increase in unit rates recently. They deplete the resources just in time for winter year after year and do nothing but justify increases in fees. Becoming over run with the wealthy forcing the struggling battlers out. Awwwww Nuf said.

While I agree there are some parts of NZ that you wouldn't want to build a nuclear power plant because of the likelyhood of siesmic activity - the small number of stations that would be required to supply the WHOLE Countries needs plus with strict building requirements to cater for earthquake activity to a high level - still leaves me to believe it is the way to go!!

Beyond any political or economic consideration, Nuclear Power Stations are not really an option for New Zealand. Mother Nature dictates this: New Zealand has way too much seismic activity for a nuclear reactor to function safely.
